Book Deals: Week of March 31, 2025
Robert Davis at Forge acquired North American rights to Paradox, by father-daughter duo Douglas and Aletheia Preston, from Eric Simonoff at William Morris Endeavor. The publisher said the thriller follows CBI agent Frankie Cash and Eagle County, Colo., sheriff Jim Colcord from Extinction on “their most enigmatic and dangerous case yet, which begins in Rome with the inexplicable defacement of an ancient holy relic before taking readers to the scene of a ritualistic murder in the Colorado wilderness.” Publication is set for April 2026.
Random House Nabs Next Salman Rushdie Fiction Collection
Little Random picked up North American rights to The Eleventh Hour by Booker Prize–winner and New York Times bestselling author Salman Rushdie from Andrew Wylie at the Wylie Agency. The publisher called the book “a moving, masterful collection of five interlinked stories and novellas that explore the eternal mysteries of the eleventh hour of life.” Publication is set for November.
‘Brave’ D.C. Episcopal Bishop Inks Two Deals with PRH
Andrew Karre at Dutton Young Readers took North American rights to adapt Episcopal Bishop of Washington Mariann Edgar Budde’s How We Learn to Be Brave for readers ages 12 and up alongside novelist Bryan Bliss, with Jennifer Gates at Aevitas representing Budde and Michael Bourret at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret representing Bliss. Simultaneously, Margaret Anastas at Flamingo picked up world rights to I Can Learn to Be Brave, a picture book adaptation of Brave illustrated by Holly Hatam, from Gates and Christy Ewers at the CAT Agency, who represented Hatam. Publication dates are set for October 21 and summer of 2026, respectively.

New offerings this week include Outside by three-time Newbery Honoree Jennifer L. Holm, about a 12-year-old girl who “has always been told that Outside isn’t safe and that the walls of the Refuge will protect her but begins to wonder what she will find beyond”; Godfall by Van Jensen, “a sci-fi crime thriller about a sheriff who must contend with swift social change and a string of murders when a giant alien drops on his remote corner of Nebraska”; and Elon Musk: American Oligarch, a graphic biography by Darryl Cunningham, which “uses Cunningham’s signature pictographic style to peel back the layers of myth around Musk, delivering a timely portrait that traces his journey to his current 
position at the apex of tech power and far-right politics.”

New projects this week include Trish Lundy’s Premeditated, which follows a teen goth whose best friend is murdered on graduation night, and teams up with the boy who found her bleeding on the side of the road to solve the mystery of her friend's death; A Guide for the Afflicted by Tess Monet Brown, a YA fantasy pitched as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Wednesday, in which a demon-plagued teenager finds solace in an online community of the similarly afflicted; and Angelica Cheng’s debut The Fast Track, a rivals-to-lovers romance pitched as Check & Mate meets Drive to Survive, in which a 17-year-old pursues her dream of becoming the first female F1 champion, and must face paparazzi, prejudice, and an attraction to her annoyingly handsome teammate.
